Description of the artifact and how it meets the standard and criteria:
This artifact is a graphic organizer that my students used over the course of a couple of
weeks. We read The Right Dog for the Job in our Journeys textbook, then connected
the dog from that story to a dog that students knew in their personal lives along with
dogs from the movie Iron Will that we watched. This graphic organizer helped students
organize the information that they were getting from different sources. Graphic
Organizers are a research-based instructional technique that helps students make
connections between similar content.
Reflection on the artifact:
The students in my class absolutely loved this unit that we did. They were able to apply
the knowledge they were learning to real life experiences and really had great interest in
the topic. This group of kids really enjoys learning about animals and it was really
interesting to see them work with the same animal in many different ways and discuss
the similarities and differences that they saw. This is an activity I will for sure use in
future years because I think it is one that my students learned a lot and will remember
once they leave fourth grade.
