1) Bolt Lengths - Explanation Listed below are the steps PDS uses to determine bolt lengths. If you see a bolt length that is incorrect, please refer to this explanation to see if all the calculations PDS is performing appears to be correct. The example below fir for a CL300 spec, with lap joint flanges. a) b) °) a) Pg 6 A ane) fp) Retrieve bolt extensions from stud_70_300_5 (70=Lapjoint) 301-2” - 8125" (No Modifier) Get flange thickness fom BLT_70_300_5 (70=Lapjoint) C301 -2°— 1.034” Get gasket thickness from C301.ped C301 — 2” Lapjoint = .125” Add values together Gasket + (Bolt Extension * 2) + (Flange Thickness * 2) Length 125 +(8125*2) + (1.034 * 2) 818" Look at Bolt_Length table in Piping Job Spec Table. This will round your bolt length UP to the next size, ic. 3.818 is between 3.7501 & 4.0, so the preferred length is 4.0”. ‘Now look at the Bolt Commodity Table. Find the entry where bolt diameter = .625. Diameter is retrieved from STUD_70_300_5 (70=Lapjoint) table. And the size is between 3.999 & 4.0001. This will retrun the commodity code (GM number). Another Example: '$2500J, 4” RingJoint (31) CL300 STUD_30_300.5 .7949*2 5/8” Diameter BLT_30_300_5 625 *2 Gasket 125 0625 Lengths 2.9648 2.9023 Preferred Length is 3” for either 1/8” or 1/16” gaskets.
