A homeless encampment in Howell received an

outpouring of donations from the community after an
Asbury Park Press story published in December detailed how people survive living outside in tents during the winter.
The camp is coordinated by the Rev. Steve Brigham, who ran the infamous Tent City in Lakewood until
it was shut down by the township in 2014. Tent City
was an outdoor camp that housed more than 100 individuals.
Brigham said hes been receiving warm clothing,
coats, blankets, canned goods, food, toiletries, gift
cards, camping equipment and monetary donations
on a regular basis. The Press fielded more than 70

calls and responded to 40-plus emails from locals who

wanted to know how to donate to the camp.
All the homeless really appreciate the great generosity of all who gave during this holiday season,
Brigham said. It really brightened up their Christmas.

A coastal storm is expected to bring several inches

of snow to the Jersey Shore today, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly.
Ocean, Atlantic, Cumberland and Cape May counties and the eastern half of Burlington County are under a winter storm warning, according to the weather
service. Monmouth and the rest of the counties south
are under a winter weather advisory.
The most likely scenario for Monmouth County is 3
to 5 inches along the coast and less inland, said Lance
Franck, a meteorologist at the NWS in Mount Holly.
Ocean County is expected to get 4 to 7 inches, he said.
But snowfall amounts in both counties will depend
on the storm track, since central New Jersey is expected to be on the northwestern edge of the storm.
The storm moved across the Southeast on Friday,
where it picked up energy from the Gulf of Mexico and
strengthed over the Florida panhandle. It then was expected to move northeast toward North Carolina, state
climatologist David Robinson said.
The storm is expected to move offshore and travel

Dems question
Christies $300M
Statehouse fixup
BOB JORDAN @BOBJORDANAPP

TRENTON - Democratic state lawmakers say they

want more information about Gov. Chris Christies
tightly guarded plans for a $300 million renovation of
the Statehouse after an Asbury Park Press story highlighted cost overruns on similar projects in other
states.
Sen. Raymond Lesniak, D-Union, chairman of the
Senate Economic Growth Committee, said his panel
will hold a special public hearing Thursday to get a
more detailed explanation of Christies proposal.
Sections of the Statehouse date back 224 years. Preservation experts told the Press last month that updates
to aging capitol buildings elsewhere commonly have
led to unforeseen issues or delays, and that special construction challenges and materials have inflated costs.
Restoring the Kansas Statehouse, for instance, took
13 years and $325 million, more than triple the original
estimate after legislators added plans for a visitors
