Pathologist- A pathologist looks under a microscope at blood, urine, tissues and other

body fluid samples. His or her goal is to observe levels of certain chemicals or other
substances in the body such as a virus. They present their findings to the physician.
Jerry Jaax was a veterinary pathologist who worked for the USAMRIID. Another place
he could work could be at Weatherby healthcare in Minnesota. Weatherby Healthcare is
helping a location in Minnesota that needs the services of a Pathologist. This is to assist
with locum tenens coverage.

Virologist- Virologists study viruses that affect humans, animals, insects, bacteria, and
many more organisms. When a virologist is conducting his research, the area that is
being focused on is normally virus replication. They see how the virus will transform the
healthy cell. Some virologists may work in industry research to develop new
medications. Peter Jahrling is a civilian virologist in the book. Another place he could
work could be the CDC. Its goal is to protect the public health through the prevention of
disease. The CDC focuses national attention on developing and applying disease
control and prevention, primarily through the use of vaccines.

Veterinarian- Veterinarians examine animals with the goal of diagnosing their health
problems so that they can treat them for certain medical conditions. They can perform
surgeries on animals and dress wounds, telling the owner about how to care for the
animal after prescribing medication. They are certified to operate medical equipment
and can test for and vaccinate against diseases. They can also euthanize the animals.
Nancy Jaax was a veterinarian in the book and could also open up her own practice
where she could examine and treat sick animals. A practice is basically a clinic.

Epidemiologist- Epidemiologists study and analyze the patterns of health and disease
conditions in certain populations. They also look at the causes and effects of diseases in
the defined populations. It is the foundation and keystone of public health because it
shapes policy decisions with evidence-based practice. They identify risk factors for
disease and targets for preventive healthcare. Dr. Frederick Murphy is an epidemiologist
who works for the CDC. He could also work for general dynamics in their epidemiology

department. General Dynamics Corporation is an American aerospace and defense

multinational corporation. It is the world's fifth-largest defense contractor based on
revenues from 2012.

Microscopist- Microscopists study tons of objects that are too small to be seen by the
naked eye. Working in a laboratory setting, they use microscopes to determine the
makeup and characteristics of materials. They might be employed as biochemists and
biophysicists. The job mostly requires a combination of office and lab work. Lab work
can present health hazards, depending on what kind of research microscopists are
conducting, so appropriate precautions must be taken. Dangerous work in labs can
include dealing with biosafety level 4 hazards. A microscopist from The Hot Zone was
Thomas Geisbert. Another place he could work could be at a research lab in the
California Institute of Technology. He could teach and conduct research at the state of
the art facility. Caltech is a private doctorate-granting university located in Pasadena,
California, United States.

General Question: Nobel Prize
If I were to give a nobel prize to someone in the book, it would have to be Dr. Shem
Musoke. This is because he put in a lot of effort into making sure that Charles Monet got
better. For example, Dr. Musoke...concentrated on his work.Monet suddenly jerked
and thrashed. Monet vomited (Preston). This shows that Musoke didnt care about how
infectious the disease was and still continued to treat the ill patient. Later, Musoke
himself was diagnosed with Marburg. For instance, Nine days after the patient vomited
into Dr. Shem Musokes eyes and mouth, Musoke developed an aching sensation in his
back (Preston). Musoke eventually experiences all the symptoms that Monet had but
survives. Musokes brave and courageous actions make him deserve the nobel prize.
General Question: Biosafety Level 4 Labs
The Texas Biomedical Research Institute is a biosafety level 4 lab located in San
Antonio (very close to Austin). It specializes in AIDS, herpes, Ebola virus disease and
other hemorrhagic fevers. They are working to create vaccines for these viruses.

The Georgia State University is a public research institute with a biosafety level 4 lab
located in Atlanta. It specializes in the B virus and is researching it. Their studies focus
on the ways the virus kills the host and how that process can be evaded with early
identification, appropriate antiviral drugs. They are soon to come up with effective
vaccines.

The United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases is located
close to Washington D.C. and has a biosafety level 4 lab. The biosafety level 4 lab focus
primarily on various highly contagious hemorrhage fevers. They include Ebola, Lassa,
and Marburg.

The Philipp University of Marburg is a biosafety level 4 lab located in Marburg which is
extremely close to Frankfurt. The University focuses on hemorrhagic fever viruses and
the most notable one is Marburg.

The National Institute of Infectious Diseases is a biosafety level 4 lab located in tokyo. It
specializes in AIDS, Ebola, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East
respiratory syndrome (MERS). Lassa fever, Marburg disease and smallpox, must also
be handled by the BSL-4 facility.

The Francis Crick Institute is a biomedical research institute in London, UK with

biosafety level 4. It specializes in Ebola and Lassa Fever.
