Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action
Regarding: Course Proposal
Date: August 22, 2016
I write this letter in support of the course proposal, The Virtues of War Politics, Policy, &
Perceptions of Military Service. The proposal is being submitted by Mr. Logan M. Isaac under
the direction of Professor Stanley Hauerwas at the Divinity School.
Duke University is an institution and community committed to the principles of excellence,
fairness, and respect for all people. Duke University is committed to encouraging and sustaining
work and learning environments that are free from harassment and prohibits discrimination.
Equal employment and educational opportunities are provided without regard to race, color,
sex, religion, national origin, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, age
or genetic information. Duke University makes good faith efforts to recruit, hire and promote
qualified women, minorities, individuals with disabilities and veterans.
While, the Office for Institutional Equity implements and monitors the Equal Opportunity
policy and Affirmative Action programs at Duke University, it is a responsibility shared among
administrative and academic leaders.
An integral part of our commitment to diversity and equity is embodied in our efforts to
extend our outreach to veterans and to educate and raise awareness among all members of
Duke University community regarding our policies, procedures and practices to support
veterans in educational and employment settings.
To this end, I believe this course will be an important step in considering historical,
philosophical and public policy aspects related to perceptions and realities of wars and the
military. The course will provide an opportunity for students and faculty to learn and
contemplate issues relevant to war and the impact on society. This course and perhaps other
future academic opportunities will enhance our training initiatives for managers and
administrators at Duke.
Please contact me if you any additional information.
