Cobalt(II) and nickel ions were added to lead acetate glasses and their optical absorption spectra were measured. The spectra showed absorption bands characteristic of octahedral cobalt(II) and nickel ions. The positions of the bands were found to depend on the glass composition and the amount of metal ions added.
