Reflection Paper
One of the rules that struck me the most is impersonating your reader.
Fo me this is very important to put yourself in the perspective of your reader.
It is important that we understand the readers perspective because they are
the reason why the authors are writing. The author must see his work in
readers perspective because it is refining his work. Another reason is that it
helps the author to refine his work in a sense itll give clearer and perfect
sentences like the example in the readings. Also, it gives the author the
chance to develop the ability to edit on his own work.
Another rule that struck me is the rule that there is, unfortunately, no
such thing as an A for Effort when it comes to written work. True enough
that there is no grade a for the effort. When you do something, you must
give your best effort to accomplish it. So when you write something we
should give our maximum effort and skills. Also, this part made me realised
that are minds should not be clattered. We cannot give our best effort if our
minds are all around. We can focus well and give our best if we organised our
train of thoughts and ideas accordingly. So in the end, we can avoid the
example in the reading like I would have added in the additional cases and
fixed the mess in Section III, but my car broke down on Monday and my
uncles family has been staying in our house this week, and . . .
The rule of Your language becomes clear and strong not when you can
no longer add, but when you can no longer take away also struck me. This
rule emphasised the importance of keeping our works short and simple. As
we hit around the bush, the more it becomes confusing and complex. We
need to be concise and direct to the point because the readers can
understand the work easy which makes a greater impact than a wordy work.
In the example given in the book, I understand the value of being simple. At
first, I was confused and I interpreted the original work in many ways. But
when it got edited, I understand it clearly.
