How to get your certificates Apostilled in Korea

An apostille is a certification provided under the Hague Convention of 1961 for


authenticating documents for use in foreign countries.
The sole function is to certify the authenticity of the signature of the document. Put
simply, an apostille is a certificate that is attached to another document so that it will
be accepted when used overseas.
To use in India our (degree) certificate provided by Institutions in Korea must be
apostilled.
The following files providing details about how to get your certificates apostilles in
South Korea.
The first file is prepard by one of my friend Dr. Arun Kalkar.
The other one was prepared by an anonymous vounteer and avilable in interntet.

How to apostille certificates in Korea?


Well, attesting your Ph.D. certificate from Ministry of Justice, Govt. of Korea is quiet
easy and just need few minutes and less than 100,000 KRW. Visit the Min. Justice along with
original certificate, alien card and any other ID's (such as Univ. student card etc. if you have, but
not necessary) and tell them that, you have graduated from University and would like to get
attested your degree certificate. Ministry office is located in the address mentioned below.

Note that, before visiting the ministry office, get your degree certificate notarized by the
attorney (the attorney office is also located in same building).
To be in a safer side it highly recommended to have your certificate attested/authenticated by
Ministry of Justice before leaving Korea.

How to get there?

What is the procedure?


1. The documents to be needed the apostil should be notarized by the lawyer. You will find
a lawyer office located at the 5th floor of Korean Li Building in which you will apply for
it, and can get it notarized there. Pay 25,000 won for each persons documents.
2. Then go to the 4th floor of the same building with the notarized documents and your
passport or alien card.
3. You should fill in the application form and submit it with the application fee Korean Won
1,000.
4. If you submit it by PM 2:30, you will get the apostil on the very day.
5. You can apply it by mail, which will take about 10 days.
6. Documents required:
1. Your degree, 2. Passport, 3. Alien Card, 4. 26,000 won (may be vary).

If your Korean certificate is issued by a private-run organisation or body


1. The certificate can be issued either in Korean or English
2. Please bring the record, no matter what language is written, to a recognised notary
public office in Korea to have the certificate notarised (with a Golden-Seal on it). In
addition if the certificate is written in Korean the certificate should be both translated
into English and notarised by a certified translator (or company) and a notary public
office.
3. You then bring the notarised document above to the * Apostille Counter
administered by the Ministry of Justice to be apostilled for use in Ireland. Their contact
number is +82-(0)2- 720 8027, but an English speaking person may not be available at
their counter.

If your Korean certificate is issued by a national (state) organisation or body


1. The certificate, again, can be issued either in Korean or English. However, the one
issued by a state-run body is not required to be translated or notarised. For use in
Ireland, it would be strongly advisable that you get the certificate issued in English and
have that English original certificate apostilled.
2. You then bring the original certificate directly to *Apostille Counter administered by the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Their contact number is +82-(0)2-2100
7600, but an English speaking person may not be available at their counter.

*The both counters are located right beside each other in the office of Passport Division of
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Map and directions to the office are as below;-
