Mosaics:

What it is.
A Mosaic is creating art out of broken little pieces of glass. It is like creating a puzzle, but
with broken glass, and you create what you are making and how it will look.
History:
Oldest mosaic example found.
A temple building in Ubaid, Mesopotamia in the third millennium BC.
Historical Examples
1. Mesopotamia example
a. Pieces of colored shells, stones, and ivory. Susa and Choqa
Zanbil.

2. Roman example
a. Mosaic floors in places such as Carthage's in Roman villas. Most
famous ones are found in Tunisian Museums.

a. Oriental Mosaics, most famous is Zeugma Mosiac.

4. Why St. Peters Cathedral
a. It was built because of the Roman Emperor. He wanted to have it
there, but it has recently been replaced with a new model of the Cathedral.

My own mosaic:
I chose to to a bird because it reminded me of comfort. My mom loves birds and I have grown
up with the familiarity of it. I knew it would be hard because I saw how the glass needed to have
sharp and narrow edges. I feel very accomplished in my work because it turned out the way that
I intended it to.
