Memo (Climatologist Rationale)

The proposed highway plan has been rejected for a number of problems found. The proposed
highway goes through 14 countries, including Tunisia, Algeria, Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon,
Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia,
Zimbabwe, and South Africa. 11 of 14 of the countries are arid to semi-arid. Arid climates are
problematic for any source of human expansion. Water is a vital nutrient to the human body, and
it doesnt make sense to build a highway along an area that is lacking in water. A portion of the
countries also have desert in them. Arable land in all of the countries is very low, with a
maximum percentage of 30.38% in Malawi and a low of 1.46% in Congo. If a highway is built
along this area, more and more structures will be built, and all of it will fail, as evidenced by the
data shown here. There simply isnt a high enough level of human essentials to support a new
community. There would be many droughts and not enough water to recover from the droughts.
This is why the highway plan has been rejected based on the physical outlook.
