GOALS

ACADEMIC: What do I need to learn today?

I need to learn about the relationship between force and distance
when stopping.
ACCOMPLISH: What do I need to accomplish today to be successful?
I would like to finish the invesigate in class.
What Do You See?
Look at the illustration in the text. Use any scientific language that applies to describe
what is happening.
Use mass, inertia, velocity, and Newtons laws to address what you see?
I see two cars that were previously moving when their inertia was stopped by another
car that was moving at the same velocity and with the same inertia.
Why does the body continue to move when the car stops?
The bodies continue to move even after the car stops because of their inertia and
because of newtons first law, this is because the bodies are not stopped immediately
after the cars collide, causing them to keep moving in this cut out.

What Do You Think?

Read the entire section and thoughtfully respond to the question.
The airbag helps in the case of an accident because their the airbag provides a cushion
for the head of the driver and passenger. If it wasnt there then the head of the persons
head would get stopped by the windshield.

Investigate
Be sure to respond to any questions or record data for the items listed below.
3.a. Cracked at 12 cm and 14 cm
4.a. Smash hight 16 cm
5.a. We saw the egg fall and then make a small indent in the flour and the egg got no
visible damage.
6.a. The crater was 1 cm deep in the flower.
7.a. With the 1 cm stopping distance the egg got no visible damage.

8.a. The sheet cannot exert enough force because the elastic potential energy builds up
and then the egg gets rebounded back.
