PEACE WEEK
We will be celebrating Peace/Kindness week January 17th through January 20th. Each day the students
will participate in an activity to promote peace and kindness. We will also have cooperating games at
their respective lunch recess time. We will have a final culmination to the weeklong event at 2:30 PM on
Friday, January 20th. We, as a school, will form a HUMAN PEACE SIGN out on the playground. We will also
sing a medley of peaceful songs with fifth grade students drum accompaniment. Please communicate
with your children and ask them about all the events each day. It is very important that we as a
community embrace peace and kindness. The weekly PEACE/KINDNESS SPIRIT DAYS are as follows:
Tuesday-Too Bright to Fight: Wear neon clothing. Walker Eagles solve problems respectfully.
Wednesday: Be Kind Like Josh.
Wear your favorite sports jersey. Students are asked to wear their favorite sports team
jersey in honor of Josh for his love of sports and his love of showing kindness to others.
Thursday: Be Kind T-shirt day: .Kindness is T-riffic.
All students will wear their Be Kind t-shirt to remind others and themselves to be more kind,
more often. (Purple, pink, red, gray, blue, green or orange shirts are also acceptable).
Friday: Rainbow day: Feeling Groovy! Wear rainbow colors to show that no matter if the colors
or personalities clash, we can all still get along in Peace!
Broccoli originated in Italy and has been eaten there since the 6th Century B.C. It is a member of the
cabbage family and is high in Vitamin C. One cup of chopped broccoli is equivalent in Vitamin C to eating
an orange. Broccoli is also high in Vitamin A, which helps our cells fight cancer and glaucoma, promotes
healthy skin, breaks down urinary stones, and maintains healthy bones and teeth. Another benefit is
that it is high in fiber, which slows the rate sugar is absorbed into the bloodstream. One final fact:
California grows over 90% of our nations broccoli. Maybe they should change their name to the
Broccoli state.
