INTRODUCTION
Following the introduction of Joint Operation forces into
Indonesia in June, under the code name Typhoon Rising, the
conflict in this Southeast Asian nation looked like it might
finally come to a peaceful conclusion. The Joint Ops forces
achieved initial success in suppressing the Rebel insurgency.
However, during the last month, fighting has escalated as a
result of Rebel troops receiving weapons and logistical support
from underground factions operating in neighboring countries.
As the Rebel troops began using battle tanks, helicopter
gunships, and other heavy weapon systems, the Joint Ops
forces responded in kind. What started out as an insurgency
now threatens to become an all out war.
The Joint Ops: Escalation expansion pack takes you back to
the equatorial islands to fight as a member of either the Joint
Ops forces or those of the Rebels. In addition to new and
improved gameplay features, you can now take control of a
number of additional vehicles, including tanks and dirt bikes, as
well as new weapons and equipment. Also included are several
training missions, co-op missions, and multiplayer missions set
on maps featuring such locales as airports, coal mines,
waterfall ruins and even rocket launch facilities.

INSTALLATION
Before installing Joint Ops: Escalation, you must have the original game, Joint Operations:
Typhoon Rising, installed on your computer. To install Escalation, insert the game CD into
your computers CD-ROM drive. If you have AutoRun enabled, you will see the CD menu
automatically. Click on the install button and follow the directions to install the game.
If you insert the game disk and nothing happens, double-click on the My Computer icon on
your Windows desktop, then double-click the CD Drive icon. When you see the CD menu,
click on the install button and follow the installation instructions.
You will need to enter the CD Key printed on the inside sleeve of the Joint Ops: Escalation
CD case in order to install the game and access NovaWorld. Please remember that it is
IMPORTANT TO KEEP THIS CD KEY IN A SAFE PLACE. If you lose it, it cannot be replaced.
You will need this key if you ever reinstall Joint Ops: Escalation. This CD KEY can only be
assigned to one account and cannot be transferred to another account. When prompted,
type the CD Key into the space provided.
PERMANENT DEATH
A server setting has been added that will allow a person hosting a game to make a players
death permanent for the duration of the mission. This added feature will help those people
who want to run instant elimination type
tournaments, similar to those played at major
LAN events. With this setting activated, players
that are killed during a mission will not be
allowed to spawn back into the mission.
Instead, they will be given an option to act as
a spectator. They can then enter the missions
again, but cannot interact with the environment
or chat with other players. Once the mission is
over, these players can then resume play.
BODY ARMOR
Another piece of equipment available in the accessory slot is ceramic body armor. This
functions just like body armor in real life in that it does not deflect a round. Instead, it
spreads out the kinetic energy of the round over a larger area, thus reducing the penetrative
force. While body armor can be penetrated by Full Metal Jacket rounds up close where the
round has its maximum energy, at longer distances where the round has lost energy, the
body armor will protect the wearer.
REARMING POINTS
Rearming points will allow the player to rearm the vehicles that do not have infinite ammo.
Players are only allowed to use the Rearming Point that is affiliated with their team. The
Rearming Points reload the vehicles in a set time. As with the Armories, once a player has
used a Rearming Point it will not be available for a short period of time there after.
P90
Javelin
This man portable missile operates similarly to a Stinger. Once
your soldier has a lock on the target and fires, the missile will
track the target all the way to impact. This allows the solider to
fire and then seek cover or get away. Only Engineers can use the
Javelin.
AMMO TYPE: Javelin missile
ROUNDS CARRIED: 1
MUZZLE VELOCITY: 800 m/s
Parachute
All classes of soldiers can select the parachute as their
accessory. It does not come as standard equipment. The
parachute allows soldiers to exit an airborne helicopter and
descend safely into battle. While falling, the player can steer
the parachute. Once deployed, the parachute cannot be used
again until you get a new one at an armory.
Body Armor
All classes of soldier, except Sniper, can choose Body Armor as their accessory. This
equipment reduces the damage a player takes when hit in the torso. Therefore, a shot that
would normally kill may only wound due to the soldier wearing body armor.

NEW VEHICLES
Joint Ops: Escalation adds 7 new vehicles to the original 29. In addition, two firing
positions have been added to each of the Strykers and BTR-80s. This allows passengers
of these vehicles to add their personal firepower to the defense of these vehicles.
Battle Tanks
This powerful armored vehicle holds three players. The driver maneuvers the tank about the
battlefield, but does not control any of the weapons. The gunner controls the turret and fires
the main gun. The commander has access to a .50 cal. machine gun and can give targeting
information to the gunner. The gunners sight has multiple magnification levels - 2x for wide
field of view and 10x for narrow field of view. The commanders targeting reticule appears
in the gunners sight and either shows the gunner the target or the direction the turret must
be turned in order for the gunner to see the target in the commanders sight.
Attack Helicopters
Capable of carrying two players, these new helicopters feature both cannons and rockets.
The pilot flies the helicopter and gunner controls the cannon and the rockets. From the
gunners position, the player can see below and in front of the helicopter, engaging targets
independently of the pilots flight path.
NEW VEHICLES
Dirt Bike
These two-wheeled vehicles allow troops to move quickly across the battlefield. Although
they offer no protection for the driver or passenger, they make up for this with pure speed.
Dirt bikes are not armed. However, the passenger may fire a personal weapon to either side
just not straight ahead due to the position of the driver. Whether traveling off road or on,
the dirt bike can get you anywhere on land in a hurry.
10
AH-64A
This attack helicopter requires both a pilot to fly it
and a gunner to control the weapons. It features
both rockets and a cannon, allowing it to quickly
move about the battlefield and engage both vehicles
and infantry alike. With the AH-64A, the Joint Ops
has firepower that flies and can support other
vehicles and troops during air assaults as well
amphibious landings.
Rebel Vehicles
T-80U
This battle tank gives the Rebels some heavy firepower for attacking enemy troops and vehicles. It is
the best weapon to use against the Joint Ops battle
tank but should be used with dismounted infantry
alongside to protect its flanks.
KA-52
Featuring two counter-rotating main rotors, this
attack helicopter can take damage to its tail section
without losing flight control. This helicopter also
requires both a pilot to fly it and a gunner to control
the weapons. Cannons and anti-tank missiles allow
the KA-52 to engage all types of vehicles, including
battle tanks.
