CORE Vocational

Course Description:
Pre-vocational tasks based on the student's individual skills and needs, adapted for
vision and cognitive levels. Focus is on task completion process, using materials to
compare attributes, backward chaining of beginning middle end,
This course teaches basic vocational skills, helping students gain knowledge of
desirable work behaviors such as coming to work on time, following instructions,
and appropriate dress for work. Students also learn functional vocabulary words for
work, community and safety.
Students explore different types of jobs and practice employment skills such as
interviewing skills , the job application process, and using supportive technology
such as email and google read and write.
Students also have work-based learning time when they punch in using a time clock
and practice work skills such as working in the cafeteria and working in the kitchen
and doing work boxes. The center-based program also has a popcorn selling
business and students make and sell popcorn in the school setting.
