Reza Abedini

Reza Abedini was born in 1967 in Tehran, Iran. He is accepted throughout the world as an Iranian graphic
designer. He is famous for his Persian typography as well as his use of traditional and modern themes, which creates
his unique style. He has his own website, www.rezaabedini.com. This site is where he displays his works as well as
information about himself.

One piece of his is an advertisement for the film Reves de Sable, done in 2003. This piece is very well done
and quite simple. Ill first discuss the colors used. There is white and black and the third is yellow. It is a bright hue
and a bit darker then most hues of yellow. This allows you to distinguish between the white and yellow as well as
the black to standout on the yellow. The use of these colors makes this piece strong.

He used an image of women as the focal point with the text of the event as a secondary focal point. The
image is black and white with a newspaper look, which makes it unique. Not to forget that the skin tone or the part
that would usually be white is yellow like the background. Her shawl is made with white Persian text. This white
Persian text overlap and angle is unique. The text that tells about the event is black, which strongly contrast with the
white text and yellow background. This text is at an angle following the shawl, which helps unite the image in
harmony. This is also why the skin of women is yellow like the background.

The placement of the elements is key to this image working well. The woman is between the third and half
of page and since the women is the largest element, it helps balance the poster. The text announcing the event is
smaller in portion because it is black, and black draws attention. The women herself has very little black even her
hair is just off from being true black like the event text is. The skin of the women is the only part shaded. This
shading is just enough for you to catch how her face looks. The shawl isn't shaded because of the white text and
yellow background creates the feeling of texture.

Overall, this piece is very well done. It does its purpose and creates visual interest. Draws attention with the
contrast as well as with the yellow since yellow in itself is bright color that catches attention. The woman has
enough detail to interest the viewer and not be distracting to the point. I, also, recommend looking at his other
works, which also show his unique style, which comes from his typography and black and white in his works.
