St. Theresa (October 17), the patroness of Spain, is represented in Christian Art kneeling in
prayer, with an angel a short distance above piercing her heart with a flametipped arrow, in token
of the Divine love with which she was animated. The Carmelite Convent which she founded at
her birthplace, Avila, in Castile, is now her shrine. The nuns, it may be added, never occupy the
choir-stalls in the chapel, but sit on the steps, because, as they say, the angels were accustomed to
sit there whenever the saint attended Mass. (Died 1582.)
St. Francis d'Assisi (October 4th), the founder of the Franciscan Order of Preaching Friars (see
31), has for his attributes in Christian Art a lamb and a lily, the emblems of meekness and purity,
and the stigmata, or five wounds of the crucified Christ. We are told in the legend that it was
manifested to him in his cell that he should be transformed into a resemblance to Christ, "not by
the martyrdom of the flesh, but by the might and fire of Divine love." When the vision had
passed away, he discovered that in his hands, feet, and side he carried the wounds of the
Redeemer. (Died 1226.)
St. John the Baptist (August 29th) is represented in Christian Art at all times in a coat of sheepskins, in allusion to his life in the wilderness. (Beheaded 31.)
As a Christian, we need to be acquainted with the saints who are her most eloquent sign,
her sweetest fruit. To contemplate the face of Christ in the changing, diversified situations of the
modern world we must look at the saints who are "the living reflection of the face of Christ", as
the Pope reminds us. The Church must proclaim the saints and she must do so in the name of that
proclamation of holiness that fills her and makes her, precisely, a means of sanctification in the
world.
Saints carries out the mission the divine Teacher entrusted to her to be an instrument of
holiness through evangelization, the sacraments and the practice of charity. So as a student I can
also have a mission , I can still perform/helps the other people like what the 3 saints have done,
the love of serving people and showing the works of mercy. As St. Francis said "not by the
martyrdom of the flesh, but by the might and fire of Divine love." We should do good deeds and
bring the life of Christian Faith, always represent the same living face of Christ which is
holiness, with its own special quality that affects every people. We should imitate the Strong
Faith of St. Theresa, the pureness and firmness of St. Francis dAssisi, and the Dedication and
Bravery of St. John the Baptist.
Lets live life with Christianfaith,preservesandspreadsthatfaith!
