Week of: November 28, 2016

Reading

KindY News 13

-We practiced our reading super powers:


-Pointer Power: point to the word
-Picture Power: use the picture to help
-Snap word power: recognize sight
words quickly
-Sound Power: use our knowledge of
letter sounds to read tricky words
-We practiced buddy reading and worked
with our reading buddy to read new books!
-Each child received REAL BOOKS that they
can read in their book bins! We celebrated the
fact that there are so many books we can read
independently and with the help of our reading
buddy!
-We learned the sight words my, me, & big.
Ask your child to show you the chants for
these words!
-We learned the letter sounds ee, or, & z.
-We practiced breaking words apart by sound
and played the rollercoaster game to hear
each sound in CVC words (i.e cat).

Writing

Math

-We completed our unit on 3D shapes by


discussing examples of 3D shapes in our own
lives.
-We practiced writing greater than/less than
statements and talked about reading math
sentences from left to right.
-We began our unit on measurement! We started
by talking about weight. We used balances to
compare heavy vs. light items in our classroom.
-We learned about measuring length. We
practiced lining up cubes accurately to measure
different items.
-We played a number fluency game to practice
rapidly recognizing numbers in different forms
(i.e dots, ten frames, numerals, dice).
-Zero the Hero came to help us celebrate the
60th day of school!

Other News
-Brandon was our first Star Student! He shared
his poster and brought in an AWESOME show
and tell!
-Congrats to our PAWS winners: Ronnie and
Danny R.!
-We celebrated Brandons birthday!
-We had another visit from Fireman Mike! He
taught us about staying away from fire hazards
like matches, grills, and fireplaces.

-We started the week by writing about our


Thanksgiving break. This concluded our
writing about our families and we stapled
our pages together to make family books.
-We transitioned from writing on loose
paper, to writing in pre-made booklets
-We learned that if we tell our story
before we begin writing, we can plan our
sentences that will go on each
page!
