Prerequisites:
This course requires a solid understanding of the principles of accounting and of International Financial
Reporting Standards (IFRS). Since financial statement analysis brings together valuation and
accounting, familiarity with principles of finance, especially investment analysis, is also helpful.
Therefore, having taken the Basismodul Rechnungslegung (Financial Reporting) is of potential benefit.
Naturally, the course in Corporate Finance (Basismodul Finanzierung der Unternehmung) is also
helpful.
Assessment:
Assessment is based on a 90 minute written examination at the end of the term. The exam will be in
English answers in German are not valid and will not be considered for assessment. Further details
will be announced during the lecture, and examples of prior exam papers will be presented during the
tutorial sessions.
Course Material and Readings:
Lecture slides will be provided via the download section at the homepage of the Chair for Financial
Reporting and Auditing (Professur fr Rechnungslegung und Wirtschaftsprfung). The password will be
announced during lectures and tutorial sessions.
Reading a textbook is recommended. Relevant textbook passages for compulsory readings will be
announced as appropriate during the lecture. The lecture draws heavily from
Penman, Stephen H.: Financial Statement Analysis and Security Valuation, 4th edition,
McGrawHill 2010.
