PECULIARITIES OF THE METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY GOVERNANCE IN
TURKEY IN THE CONTEXT OF CHANGES IN LEGISLATION OF THE COUNTRY

(summary)
Since beginning of the new millennium Turkey experienced a significant
transformation related to the structure of local administrations. By the coming of
the Justice and Development Party (AKP) to the political power, the reform-making
process at local government system gained an accelerative trend. Within the
context of the reform program, local governments came to the front side at the
administrative structure. In this framework, metropolitan municipalities boarders
were gradually expanded; small municipalities and villages legal personalities were
abrogated, and lots of metropolitan municipalities were established.
The aim of this study is, to examine the developments in Turkish metropolitan
municipal structure within the framework of the basic laws 3030, 5216 and 6360.
