Summary Paragraph Final Draft
Supersize It, an article written by James Verini, acknowledges the demand for
expanding product to accommodate for Americans expanding bodies. Verini starts his article by
examining the simple aspect of our seats. His examples include standard movie seats, which have
expanded over 4 inches throughout the years, and car seats, which are now built to better fit
obese customers. He then goes on to explain that the room around us is growing also. James
writes, ...he rarely installs anything narrower than 8 feet. when referring to the expansion of
revolving doors. Even supermarket isles are opening up about 2.5 more feet to accommodate for
bigger shopping cart to fit more food. He then makes another obvious point that if our food
purchases are increasing then so must our clothes, which now have sizes up to 5X. Verninis final
and most eye-opening point would be the building of caskets double the standard size because of
high demand. James concludes his article by questioning the fact that if our stuff shrunk we
would then be forced to shrink.
