Il y a means there is or there are in French.

It is normally followed by an article


(le/l/la/les, and un/une/des) and a noun.
Il y a is made up of three words:
1.il - the subject it
2.y - the adverb there
3.a - the third person singular present tense of avoir (to have)
It does not directly translate in English when you try to put these three words
together, so just memorize it as there is" or "there are. You dont have to worry
about gender and number with il y a. It never changes.
Il y a un gros serpent dans notre jardin !
There is a large snake in our yard!
Il y a deux garons dans ma classe danglais.
There are two boys in my English class.
To negate il y a, put the negative expression around y a in the following fashion: il
ny a pas, meaning "there is not/there are not." Remember that the indefinite article
(un, une, des) changes to de in negative statements.
Il ny a pas de lait dans le frigo. There is no milk in the fridge.

1.You add est-ce qu to the front of it:
