Run-on sentence and Comma splices


A run-on sentence is a sentence which two independent clauses are written one after another without
puntuation.
Ex: Following storms can be dangerous storm chasers run after them.
When two independent clauses are incorrectly joined by commas without a coordinating conjuntion
is call a comma splice.
Ex: Our oceans are in danger, there is two much over fishing.
How to correct Run-on sentences
1. Make two seperate sentences

Ex: Following storms can be dangerous. Storms chaser run after them.
2. Add a coordinating conjuntion
Ex: Following storm can be dangerous, but storm chasers run after them
3. Add a subordinating conjuntion.
Ex: Even though following storm can be dangerous, storm chasers run after them.
4. Add a transition.
Ex: Following storms can be dangerous. Nevertheless,storm chasers run after them.
5. Make one independent clause into a prepositional phrase.
Ex: Despite the danger, the storm chasers run after storm.
The sorm chasers run after storm despite the danger.
How to correct Comma Splices Sentences
1. Make two separate sentences.
Ex: Our oceans are in danger. There is too much over fishing.
2. Add a coordinating conjunction.
Ex: Our oceans are in danger, for there is two much overfishing.
There is too much over fishing, so our ocean are in danger.
3. Add a subordinating conjuntion.
Ex: Our oceans are in danger because there is too much over fishing
Because there is too much over fishing, our oceans are in danger.
4. Add a transition.
Ex: There is two much over fishing. Therefore, our oceans are in danger.
There is two much fishing; therefore, our ocean are in danger.
5. Make one independent clause into a prepositional phrase.
Ex: Because of too much over fishing, our ocean are in danger.
Our ocean are in danger because of too much over fishing.
