It is a model that incorporates several theories related to instructional and
learning process. Learners retain more information by what they do as opposed to what is heard, read or observed.
Experiential Learning -
Learning by doing or action learning.
Dales Cone of Experience
Least effective method in learning
- Presented through verbal symbols such as listening to spoken words. Most effective method in learning - Hands on or field experience. Thats why action learning techniques results in up to 90% of retention. Instructor should design activities upon more real life situation. Since Dales Cone of Experience can be used a method in teaching, the instructor should ask the following in order to find out if she/he has an effective teaching technique: - Where will the students experience with their instructional resource fit on the cone? How far it is removed from real life? - What kind of learning experience do you want to provide in the classroom? - How does the instructional resource augment the information supplied by the textbook? - What and how many senses can students use to learn this instructional material? - Does the instructional material enhance learning?
