TEXAS HOLD’EM
and fuel and the amount of sun energy that was used.
In the last two hundred years, with the discovery of coal and oil, we have begun to use stored sunlight (ancient
sunlight) to increase food and energy supplies. Coal and oil both come from plants that died and were compressed
under the earth millions of years ago. That is why they are called fossil fuels.
TOURNAMENT
As a result of cheap food and fuel, we have over populated the earth far beyond its ability to provide food and
fuel without using this ancient stored sunlight. Current growth rate is one billion more people (consumers) every
12 years. We have now begun to realize that there is a limited amount of this ancient sunlight and it will eventually
run out or countries will begin to hoard it. It may last 50-100 years at the current rate of consumption, perhaps less.
This is reflected in the fact that food and energy prices have risen dramatically in the last two years.
When I discuss this with people, I find two things. Most people are unaware of the seriousness of this situation and
most people think someone else will fix it. Certainly “necessity is the mother of invention”;
many people are inventing new things that are energy saving; and new forms of energy are
being developed, hydrogen for example. But these new things are in the future a number
of years. In the meantime we need to relieve the energy burden so we have enough oil
and coal to get to the time when there are new, better, cleaner energy sources.
We all must do our part. Reduce consumption. Grow some of your own food. Reduce
driving. Buy locally. Eat less. Turn off your computers, televisions, etc at night. Turn lights
off when you do not need them. Plant some trees. Light only the part of the room you are
using. Don’t buy that new toy right now. Read more, watch less television. Use less heat
or air conditioning. Recycle. Buy less clothing. Drink more water and less pop and juice.
SATURDAY, JULY 3
Consume less.
We are programmed to be consumers. Let’s become conservers. There is still time, we
can fix it.

Announcing the Grand Opening of the
Big Rapids location of Vern’s Wooden Nickel!
We have been serving the Sand Lake area for almost 30 years, and three generations!
Now, due to the size of our family and the abundance of product, we have decided to
open a 2nd location. We think this is a good idea. We hope you do too!
