Description of the artifact and how it meets the standard and criteria:
This artifact is my conference schedule for the 2016-2017 school year. I was able to get
all 24 students signed up for my first round of conferences in October. Each child and at
least one parent/guardian came to each conference. This shows how I am able to
collaborate with my students, and their families to enhance student learning.
Conferences were a great way for me to see my students interact with their families and
talk about their learning so far in fourth grade.
Reflection on the artifact:
I love conferences and everything they offer to students, parents, teachers, and
communities. I think it is the best way we have to communicate about student growth
and discuss what students are learning at school. In fourth grade, we do student led
conferences. The first set of conferences in October is more student guided, and then in
March they are fully student led. I think this system is so positive for students because it
gives them a chance to take charge of their learning and have the role of talking about
school to their parents. I help the students when they get stuck on a topic or if the
parent asks a question that they do not know the answer to. Parents always have the
opportunity to ask questions at the end if they would like.
