Nearly 500 swimmers are expected to converge at the University of Charleston natatorium at 1 p.m.
Saturday for the Mountain State Athletic Conference meet.

Schools participating in this year's tournament include Cabell Midland, Capital, George Washington,
Huntington, Nitro, Parkersburg, St. Albans, South Charleston and Woodrow Wilson.

"I think it's going to be an interesting meet," said George Washington coach Melissa Case. "We'll have to
deal with Parkersburg, which should give us an idea of where we stand."

Parkersburg has been the conference's most successful team. The Big Reds have won the last five
MSAC boys titles and took home the boys and girls combined title in 2007. The Nitro girls tied with the Big
Reds last season for the overall girls title.

Top-seeded boys competing include Travis Green of South Charleston, Thomas Moore and Evan Walker
of George Washington, Josh Shaffer of Hurricane and Phillip Berry of St. Albans.

On the girls side, Meredith Davis and Lexie Gutierrez of George Washington and Brook Turner of
Woodrow Wilson will enter as top seeds.

Among other top contenders are Nitro's Lindsey Kerns and Alex Ross, Woodrow Wilson's Trey McGraw,
South Charleston's Phil Fischer and Hurricane's Tyler Browning.

Admission is $6 for adults and $5 for students.

This year's tournament is a tune-up for MSAC schools competing in regionals, scheduled for Feb. 9-11.
The state meet will take place at the West Virginia University natatorium Feb. 16-19.
