To help them ease their troubles. To do something nice and generous for someone. Without complaining and without any payment or reward for it. I've been in Boy Scouts since | was eleven years old, and | was working on my eagle project and | was looking for different ideas. | talked to the person who runs Kings Landing Park and she gave me a list of things I could do. One of them was building a low ropes course. She took me around the park and | saw a big asphalt pad and an overgrown fence and | asked her what that was, and she said we don't really use it, anymore and it's a waste of space. So | decided to help make what was once fun, fun again. We started building on March 13th and the project just got bigger and bigger, so it looks like we'll be done mid summer. Sometimes we would start at six in the morning, and work twelve hours, sometimes eight, sometimes four hours. We had long and short days on this. My dad, every time we've been out to work, he's been there with me. He's helping me understand things | didn't. Different techniques on how to use the tools, the most efficient way to cart around the mulch or spread it. He's helped me learn many things through this. All of the companies and Troop 347 Scouts helping with my project makes me feel that I've been very lucky and that this community is very generous, and giving too. At first it made me nervous to ask for help, but after the first company said yes, it got a lot easier asking. We've received $6,000 in financial support and over $10,00 in materials and equipment and that's not including the manpower donated by companies. And | could not have completed the project without the support and many volunteer hours put in by Troop 347 Boy Scouts. Seeing the project now, it makes me feel proud. And doing this project, it made me want to become an engineer. Designing different things, and building it, i's been really fun for me. | ove to try to prove myself and have fun while doing it. And | don't mind hard work, it's part of the package. I want to keep on helping with service. Different service opportunities in the troop, outside of the troop, feeding homeless, doing things for someone that needs it. The main purpose of service is to be cheerful while doing it. And when you go through tough times, just be cheerful and you'll get through it. Cheerful service is one of the things that can help you through a lot of things. | stay cheerful by thinking of what's going to happen at the end, not thinking of what's happening right now." Noah Breske/End of Interview Humans Of Calvert County commentary: Many companies and personal donors in our community helped to not only make this young man's vision come to fruition, but to inspire a future engineer, and help him learn that a fourteen year old can make a difference by simply starting with the belief that it's possible.
