In-Class Flip
This presentation was used in a technology professional development workshop to train teachers
on how to flip their classrooms. During the time of his presentation, I was teaching in a high
poverty Title I school, where there was poor students performance, and lack of resources.
Instructional assistants were limited for each grade level, I surveyed the teachers in the school
and based on their responses, the in-class flip seemed to be the remedy in providing our students
with either remediation, intervention, or extension, especially with the lack of instructional
assistants. With the In-Class flip strategy, teacher could bypass the anticipatory set, and jump
right into the direct instruction. Depending on the grade level, the videos that were to be created
would be no longer than five minutes. While the teacher takes a small group, another group of
students could be viewing the teacher created video and receive instruction, followed up by an
activity. The flipped lesson would be merely used as a station for students to rotate through
during math, reading, science, or social studies.
Educreations PD
This professional development was created in efforts to improve the way technology professional
development was being delivered. A survey was conducted to gather teachers viewpoints on
how PD was being delivered and if they would be interested in an asynchronous professional
development. Results indicated that teachers were interested in completing an asynchronous
technology PD workshop. I designed this curriculum to increase students higher order thinking
skills. Student performance in math and reading was a major focus in my school. I chose the
application Educreations as a tool to foster higher order thinking skills and getting our students
to prove and justify their learning.
