Packaging Project

Its known that the smog from cars cause environmental pollution but
what we dont pay attention to is, how much packaging from items
cause our environment to receive more waste that it really doesn't
need.
In our project, we investigated how much packaging is being used for
an item or a liquid, and if it was or not based on the volume/ size of our
object/ liquid.
~ We did this by solving ratios that included the surface area of the
packaging and the volume of the package ~
-
Ratio Measure
Comparing multiple amounts or quantities to each
other.
For Ex/ comparing the volume of a different shape
with another (triangular prism, rectangular prism,
etc).
In this case (Project), we use a ratio measure to see
the extra packaging that is left (SA vs. V)

As, a team, we decided that a ratio that resulted in 1.20 and above
would be considered as, Wasteful. We think of 1.20 as a measure
that is a bit over packaged for its volume.

What we learned: Throughout this process, we not only
practiced our geometry skills, but we learned about how
much material businesses waste. We noticed that some of
the water bottles did leave a bit more waste of others, but in
the long water bottles dont leave much waste as other
products. Also, we discovered that 3/6 water bottles did not
waste excess packaging. Leaving us with a conclusion that
from the bottles that we measured, only half are affecting
our environment more than the other half .
