DO NOT HINDER TO ENTER GODS REST
Subtitle 1: H HIDE ME IN YOUR PRESENCE
Subtitle 2: I IGNITE US O LORD!
Subtitle: 3: N NEED THE GOD OF BLESSINGS!
Text: Genesis 32: 1-32
Date: January 8, 2017
Purpose: Again, It is to encourage the Christian to keep trusting in
God through Christ in order to attain the partial and eternal rest that
God is offering us thru Christ.
In this sermon series I will be preaching in the positive acronym of
the word HINDER. For us not to be hindered in entering Gods rest.

1. EXPLANATION: After the long years that Jacob stayed at Mes-

opotamia with his father-in-law Laban he decided to come home

to his parents place (Canaan). As he was on his way home he had
experiences that changed his life entirely. These encounters became life-changing experiences for him.
I. Jacob the man seeking after a blessing
a) The benefits of the birthright blessing (the reasons Jacob
desires it so much)
1. Superior rank in the family. (Genesis 49:3)
2. A double portion of the paternal inheritance. (Deut. 21:17)
3. The priestly office in the Family (Num. 8:17-19)
4. The promise of the seed in which all nations of the earth
were to be blessed. (Gen.22:18)
b) Seeking the blessing alone will bring you into trouble. He
is focused in the benefit of the blessing and he wanted it.
1. Jacob and his mother used deception to achieve it.
2. It resulted to broken relationship with his brother Esau.
3. It resulted to long labor and deception by his father in law
Laban. (What you sow is what you reap!)
4. It resulted to his wrestling with God.

II. Jacob was transformed into a man who seeks after God.
Chapter 32
a) His seeking led him to a process that would make him
worthy for the blessing.
b) He came to realize that it was God he need after all.
When he was on his way home, he encountered the following to tell him of what he really need GOD!
> His encounter with the angels reminding him of Gods
promise to him at Bethel.vv2 (chpt.28)
> His encounter with Esau reminding him of reconciliation and Humility. Dependence and trust in God.
> His encounter with God. That God is all he need. The
real blessing comes with the encounter with God.
> Results:
* His name was changed from a deceiver to Israel
he struggles with God! v28
* His walk was changed God injured his hip as a reminder that he must not walk in his own strength but
must rely entirely on God to direct his steps. Vv30-32
* He was able to receive the true blessing after his
encounter with God. 29 meaning, success does not
come on human abilities but on Gods help guidance
and blessing.

3. Life Application: It is God who we need. What we really need
is not the blessing but the one who sends the blessing- God!
Matthew 6:33 Seek God first then all the blessings that your
heart desire will be provided.
Your success comes from the realization that God is all you need
and being with Him will make life complete.
