Introduction
The proceeding information will cover the following:
The GPA 2145-XX provides the gas processing industry with a conventional
compilation of authoritative numerical values for the paraffin hydrocarbons and
other compounds that occur in natural gas and natural gas liquids. The
physical properties selected are those considered most needed for
engineering and analytical computations in gas processing plants and
laboratories. The values shown are based on early work by Rossini, later
work by API Research Project 44 and subsequent work for the
Thermodynamics Research Center (TRC) Thermodynamic Tables
Hydrocarbons. The data in this publication has been checked, evaluated and
recalculated, where necessary, by the TRC at Texas A&M University. Some
of the numbers in the tables may be derived from other numbers in the tables
by simple calculations; the final results are as internally consistent as
reasonably possible. Values obtained from such related data may differ from
the tabulated values in the last digit owing to numerical round-ff, but the
differences are beyond the accuracy of the data. Each of the values in the
tables are calculated using a preferred method of calculation. The value of
the gas constant used tables was 8.31448 joules/mol Kelvin(SI). Numbers
presented in bold are different from the previous years edition of 2145.
Update Instructions
Step 1 - Locate the NGC-8206 GPA 2145-XX Physical Constants Table The
factor table can be found within the Expert view in PCCU, under the Analyzer
Operation/ Stream #/Setup/Calculation Setup/Gas Factor. Figure 1 details
the tree-level access for the gas factors.
Figure 1
1/7/2009
Selecting Gas Factors, the user will find a table that identifies all of the
physical constants used in BTU calculations, as shown in Figure 2.
Figure 2
NOTE: The ISO numbers used the Molar Basis and not the Mass Basis.
Step 2 Update Each Components Physical Constants
1/7/2009
Figure 3
For Example:
Looking at GPA 2145, page 3, the user will find the physical properties of the
selected hydrocarbons. If the user identifies the C1/Methane column and
moves down until they can identify the specific gravity (i.e., relative density),
they will see .5539 is the physical constant. Upon identifying the constant,
change NGC existing Methane relative density to reflect the new constant.
Each component must be changed to reflect the 2009 release.
Figure 4
Step 4 Update the factor file name. Select Calculation Setup in the treeview, as shown below.
1/7/2009
Figure 5
The user will see a Current Gas Factor File under the Calculations Settings
tab. Select this file, and change the file name to reflect the update tables.
The naming convention is as follows:
Once the user has changed the name, click the Send button, and commit the
change. This will add a factor file to the configuration file and will complete
the update for the selected stream.
1/7/2009
Figure 6
The user will need to move to each additional stream, and change the Gas
Factor File to the file that they have just created. This is shown below:
Figure 7
1/7/2009
Once the user has corrected each stream, the Physical Properties Constants
are now updated to the 2009 release and will apply to any analysis from this
date forward. The user may also want to complete a Save & Restore to store
a copy of the configuration file and provide a disaster recovery copy.
