The Three Types
Did you know there are three types of Diabetes? The three different types of Diabetes that
a person could be diagnosed with include: Type 1, Type 2, and Gestational Diabetes. Type 1
Diabetes is usually passed on from family member to family member. Type 2 Diabetes is
primarily caused by poor nutrition and lack of exercise. Gestational Diabetes is usually due to an
increase in blood sugar that occurs when a woman is pregnant. These three different types all
have one thing in common: all of them deal with the levels of glucose. Diabetes is an issue
caused by the pancreas, which can be categorized as Type 1, Type 2, and Gestational Diabetes.
The first type of Diabetes is Type 1 Diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes creates issues in a persons
pancreas, it has a specific diagnosis, and treatments for those who have the disease. This type
also deals with the glucose level in the blood which can be caused by little insulin. This affects
the pancreas in the body due to a hormone that is produced. The pancreas helps the body have
the proper amount of glucose. Diagnosis that is early can be considered critical in Type 1
Diabetes. Sometimes symptoms can be mistaken for influenza in which misdiagnosis could be
fatal. With treatment there is no cure for Type 1 Diabetes. The treatment is based on diet and
weight control. In type 1 diabetes, the bodys immune system in genetically susceptible
individuals produces autoantibodies that attack and destroy the insulin-producing islet cells in the
pancreas (Laberge).

The second type of Diabetes is Type 2 Diabetes. In type 2 diabetes, the patients pancreas
is secreting insulin but the body is not utilizing the hormone efficiently--a condition known as
insulin resistance (Laberge et al.). The pancreas is also harmed by Type 2 Diabetes, but this type
is caused by a poor nutrition and is also treated with insulin. Type 2 Diabetes deals with the
pancreas and glucose level. The glucose level is in the blood caused by little insulin. The
pancreas is caused by a hormone produced in the body. The pancreas is a produced hormone and
glucose deals with insulin. It is not common for Type 2 Diabetes to be detected when the patient
is seeing the doctor with a health concern that is caused by undiagnosed Diabetes. Health
concern that is caused by undiagnosed Diabetes. With treatment for Type 2 Diabetes there is no
cure and is very similar to Type 1 Diabetes. Some main focuses is on a normal blood sugar and
stopping the development of long term complications.
Gestational Diabetes is the third type of Diabetes. Gestational Diabetes is caused by an
abnormal increase in blood sugar, but this type is caused by women who are pregnant.
Carbohydrates (sugars and starches) found in foods such as sweets, potatoes, pasta, and breads,
are broken down during digestion into glucose, a simple sugar that circulates in the blood and is
used by cells for energy (DeWitt et al.). Women who are pregnant may develop Gestational
Diabetes. Gestational Diabetes involves a woman who is pregnant to drink a special solution that
must contain fifty grams of glucose. The treatment deals with changes in diet which can help
Milds that are formed to be treated. Some women are put on a healthier diet and a range of a
calorie intake. Healthy diets can help with the treatment of Gestational Diabetes. Type 1 and
Type 2 Diabetes is different than Gestational Diabetes.
Diabetes can be seen in three various forms, which include Type 1, Type 2, and
Gestational Diabetes. Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes are very similar to each other. Gestational

Diabetes only occurs when a woman is pregnant. Type 1 deals with glucose levels and the
pancreas that is caused by a produced hormone. Type 2 deals with the levels of glucose and a
hormone is produced that affects the pancreas. Gestational Diabetes is an increase in blood sugar
that mainly occurs in women who are pregnant. All together there are three different types of
Diabetes.
