Issue- Nature responsive building, Nature has healing power. There is a theory
that we have a human instinct to conserve nature , But more often than not, it is
nature that conserves us. A drug rehab centre should be the place having
natural surroundings to ensure speedy recovery of the addicts .
Specifically by the use of materials .

Maximizing the use of natural materials and natural resources in the building environment .
Minimizing toxic effect of materials and the negative effects of buildings in the building
environment.
Creating spaces more closer to nature.

To identify what has been so far towards making buildings more nature responsive in terms of Materials
and environmental identity use and what could be done to improve the building.
Main factors and study of the occupancy density, occupancy hours, severity of climate, site typology and
types of activities in the building.
Building envelope and system design: to maximize use of day lighting ensuring the lighting
levels are appropriate for building and the material.
Uses of eco friendly materials.
Increased use of renewable energy resources
Low toxic material selection

Nature responding buildings are the basic need of the present scenario. The project shows itself as a high
potential area. The thesis and the study shall help understanding the working of large project and
understanding the site in context of nature. The issue provides exploration of new techniquesuses of
materials and designing of a drug rehabilitation centre in response to climate, surroundings and
economy. Data collected thereby shall help in future for further studies.
The project shall be limited to the designing of the project, material selection . The case studies will be
done in Indian sub continent only. Literature studies can be taken of other countries, to find out the use
of new technologies for responding much better with nature. The designing will be more towards
responding to nature. Involvement of architecture will be given more importance.

This rehabilitation is given to patients who have lost basic skills after a major accident or a paralytic
stroke. These skills are needed to perform daily routine activities like cooking, reading, writing,
calculating. This happens in majority of cases where there is some injury to brain. Co ordination becomes
a problem for these patients and they need to visit an occupational therapist. The therapist gives
treatment in form of medication, exercises to strengthen the muscles. The patients can take help from a
psychologist and counselor.
