Fluidized bed boiler

Fluidization process:
Air is passed through a packed bed of solid fuel (coal-particles), it
percolates through the gaps between the particles.
With increase in air velocity, a point is reached when pressure
drop of air stream across the bed becomes equal to the weight of the
particles in unit cross section of the bed
At this velocity, particles will start floating over the air stream it
is called minimum fluidization velocity
With further increase in velocity, particles are buoyed up and
participate in the violent turbulent fluidlike motion.
With the fluidization, the combustion process is very efficient
and due to high velocity, the heat transfer process to the working
fluid is also efficient.
