DEPARTMENT PROFILE
1. DEPARTMENT HISTORY:
The Department of Commerce was established in this college with B.Com. E/M. I st year in the
year 1956-57 under Private Management with 5 Staff Members, and with strength of 30 students
in the class. In the year 1995 B.Com Vocational Course i.e. Tax Procedure & Practice was
introduced with intention to provide self employment as Tax Practitioner. In the year 1998
B.Com Computer Application was introduced in English medium keeping in with pace of changes
in Technology especially use of computers in accounting. The B.Com Insurance course was
introduced during 2008 keeping the development in Insurance sector but due to low demand later
on, started B.Com Computer Application in Telugu medium replacing of B.Com Insurance
course. Now, this Department is offering 5 (Five) programmes in B.Com with 10 Staff Members.
2. ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Commerce is playing a key role in all respects. It is the major department of
student strength around 2/3rd of the college strength. Presently the strength of the students is 814.
The major highlights of the Department are
Eminent Academic personalities have served the department like Sri J. Ailaih, Educationist,
Sri. K. Ramchander Rao who worked as Principal of this College as well as RJD Warangal &
Sri V. Jagadeeshwar, ,who is working as Officer at Academic Cell and Dr.P. Rajalingam, who
had been received The State Best Teacher award and presently Principal of GDC
Peddapalli.
The department is playing a Pivotal role in the administration of the college by serving many
committees as Conveners & Coordinators & Members, such as NSS, NCC, JKC, Career
Guidance Cell, IQAC, RRC, Consumer Club, RUSA, English Literary Club, Income Tax
Consultancy Committee.
The department is providing Consultancy in Income Tax for the staff members and also
liaison between Income Tax department and the office of the Principal.
Department organized a National Seminar sponsored by UGC-New Delhi, on Impact of
Globalization on Indian Economy January 22&23, 2010, Coordinated by Dr. P. Rajalingam.
An Edited Book was also published on Impact of Globalization on Indian Economy with
ISBN numbering by Dr.P.Rajalingam.
The Major Research Project was sanctioned by UGC during the year 2010-11.The Prinicipal
Investigator was Dr.P.Rajalingam.
There are 4 Ph.D holders in the department. Four faculty members have registered for Ph.D.
And the other three members are planning to pursue Ph.D very soon.

Dr. V.Bikshapathi is the life time member of prestigious organizations- All India Commerce
Association & Indian Accounting Association. Dr. V.Bikshapathi has received ICSSR
Doctoral Fellowship at IPE during his Ph.D program.
Every Teacher in the Department are Life time member of prestigious organization All
India Commerce Association
Dr. M. Malla Reddy has received three Gold Medals in his post graduate examination from
His Excellency, Susheel Kumar Shinde, the then Governor of Andhra Pradesh.
The department possesses eminent young faculty members who are well versed with latest
technology and are utilizing ICT in teaching & learning wherever feasible.
The department is always at forefront in providing guidance to the students in all competitive
exams & developing employability skills.
The alumni of this department have been selected in various recruitment Agencies, such as
Army, Police, Banking, Teaching, Insurance, RTC, etc.
Many students have been qualified in Professional courses like CA, ICWA, CS & also MBA.

3. RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
The department is actively engaged in research activities besides academic activities and the
following faculty members received grants form UGC for Minor Research Projects during the
academic year- 2013-14.

4. ORIENTATION COURSE AND REFRESHER COURSES
All the Faculty members have undergone orientation and Refresher courses at various UGC Academic staff College Viz., Osmania University ., JNTU H , UOH, MANUU Hyderabad.
Dr.D.Rajashekar & Dr.V.Bikshapathi have been undergone the training at IIIT Hyderabad
on HVPE as master trainers.
Three 3-day workshops on HVPE for Degree College Lecturers in the district were
conducted by the master trainers Dr.D.Rajashekar & Dr.V.Bikshapathi in the month of July,
2013.

The Master trainers Dr.D.Rajashekar & Dr.V.Bikshapathi were the Resource Persons at
Satavahana University, Karimnagar for 3-day workshops on HVPE for University Faculty.
5. SUPPORT TO SATAVAHANA UNIVERSITY
The faculty of the Department is honoured with association of Satavahana University Commerce
Board of Studies as member, advisors in framing the syllabus.
The faculty is actively engaged in the university examination assignments like Paper setting,
Squad Members, Confidential Scripts Coding, and Valuation.
6. SEMINARS / WORKSHOPS /CONFERENCE
The faculty of the Department has attended and presented about 100 research papers in various
National, International Level seminars/workshops/conference.
7. ARTICLES PUBLISHED
The faculty of the Department has published about 20 research papers in various National,
International Level journals with ISSN & ISBN.

There are two groups of elective papers for B.Com, Final year both in English medium and
Telugu medium. The staff has been constantly in touch with the changes that have been brought
by the Satavahana University. In view of changes that have been taking place in the syllabi, the
staff members are taking efforts to students for the theory examinations as per the model papers
supplied by the Satavahana University.
The staff maintains Teaching diaries, Synopsis and prepares annual Academic plans to have more
systematic approach. Department meetings are arranged every month to discuss various issues
pertaining to academic as well as administrative matters the same will be recorded in resolutions
book of the department.
The faculty of the department strictly adheres to the academic schedule as per the almanac
furnished by the university. The time table is farmed and workload is distributed among the staff
as per the time table.

12. EXTRA & CO CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:


Extension Lectures: The Department is conducting Extension Lecturers and Seminars in The
subjects concerned by the eminent persons such as Lecturers, Professors in the University /
Colleges, Karimnagar Dist., Chartered Accountants, Income Tax Practitioners, Lecturers from
other colleges, Representatives of consumers Council, and District Officials etc on latest topics
relating to stock exchange/ Income Tax, Consumer protection Act, some of the topics are included
in the syllabus the extension.
Student seminars: The Department conducts student seminars in general, final year students in
particular, in which the students actively participated and the same will be recorded in a separate
files.
Study Tours and Field Trips: The Department is arranging study Tours and field Trips to the
students of commerce identifying the Industries and fields. i.e., Industries, Banks, Income Tax
Practitioners (C.As), LIC, Chit Funds etc.
Study Projects or Tasks given to the extraordinary students: - The meritorious and
extraordinary students are given new tasks such as involving them in study projects and research
papers. They have been taught latest developments in the commerce subject

Social Service: Good number of students is actively participating in National service Scheme
(N.S.S), National cadet corps (N.C.C.) Camps of the college and participating in Clean and Green
Programmes as part of NSS and NCC.
Departmental Library:
Books: A separate departmental library is being maintained by the departments of commerce. The
department is having 250 books in the subjects concerned in the library for ready reference both
for staff and students in to facilitate teaching. English Medium Books: 170 Plus and Telugu
medium books: 80 Plus
Journals: Various Journals pertaining to commerce concerned are being maintained in the College
Library.
Computer Laboratories: For two B.Com programmes there are two computer laboratories in the
department of commerce.
13. REMEDIAL COACHING:
Remedial classes are arranged in the department every year to the academically back -ward
students, our staff actively participates in taking classes for them. The students given remedial
coaching is furnished in the following table from 2004-05 to 2012-13. These students are given
extra coaching in various subjects and topics to improve their academic performance in each year.
14: EVALUATION OF THE STUDENTS:
The department conducts slip tests and assignments regularly for all the years for assessing their
performance. Marks lists are prepared and placed in a separate register. The department also
conducts student tutorials particularly for final years, in which the students actively participate
and the same will be recorded in a separate file. The staff also submits the reports of slip tests and
assignments conducted in the department in their performance indicators. The college conducts
pre-final exams at the end of every academic year to prepare the students for university
examinations .Our staff prepares model question papers for the same.

15. POST GRADUATE PROGRAMME - M.Com (SELF FINANCE)


The Department has started Post-Graduate course i.e. M.Com from AY 2005-06 under self finance
scheme affiliated to Kakatiya University Warangal with an intake of 40 Seats. Subsequently the

affiliation transferred to Satavahana University. Since then the course is running successfully. It is
evident from the results acquired since inception of the course. The following are the results of
the course for the last Four years.
