Dow 1AC Explanation

We are not Extra T because we are defining BP activities which

are spying on the border. The BP does extra operations where
they are stopping drugs => those are directly involved as well,
were preventing the surveillance of the Tohono Oodham nation
which goes through the border. We dont get rid of the whole
border surveillance, just the surveillance on the Tohono Oodham.
These tactical activities can be used to understand the Tohono
Oodham cultural activities.

What types of harassment are there? See card for answers

Advantage 1: Culture
A) Border was tightened to try to decrease the amount of drug
trafficking across the border, and it increased BP. Entry on
the nation except for legal check points is illegal. Border also
prevents Tohono Oodham from getting adequate health care
because theyre getting separated from their families.
B) US government is making policies without thinking about
what the TO want and what they think. Drug trafficking is
making the immigration situation worse because they create
an element of fear and installs crime on the nation, and
also violates their rights.
C) Explains what structural violence is. Gives specific examples
of how people are subject to structural violence.
D) Society makes it not as big of a problem as it actually is. Also
has massive structural impact. Probability, time frame,
magnitude. Time frame: Structural violence is happening
right now. Probability: SV is happening right now. Magnitude:
How bad the impact is. SV is underrepresented.
E) The reason the status quo fails is because it makes empty
false promises. Talks about how the US is the best starting
point, because US has a lot of influence in the world. Read
warrant, our evidence specifically talks about how the US
has changed its policies, and so the rest of the world looks to
the US. We dont value the TO just for their knowledge. By
listening to their views, it might help us in the future.

Advantage 2: The Border

A) CBP serves as a border between the different people, the
global North and global South. CBPs mission is to search for
the other, has had huge negative consequences, and has
disrupted the TO in the name of surveillance.
B) Brenda Norrell is a radical white. This card is an extension of
colonial logic.
C) This card is the answer to Spillover, affects subalterns. A
change in attitude or policy toward 1 group will have an
effect to the other groups. We need to acknowledge these
divisions that we have created in society. Also answers
Borders K/CP; we must change the mindset first. Plan is
prerequisite. We must get rid of the border in our mind, but
they are still there between the global north and the global
south. We have to break down the physical border first, then
break down the border in our minds. Subaltern is a subgroup
of society, are oppressed and are pushed to the edge of
society, like queers, blacks, Hispanics, Native Americans,
etc.
Death ethics is the justification of violence, which is why
structural violence continues.
D) Basically ending structural violence.
E) The rationalization of otherization means that we are
thinking of them as the other, so we are separating them
from our society, which is bad. Were viewing them as
inferior. Also, otherization is the root of all violence. By
ignoring Native culture, politics, and economics leads to
otherization and denies existence. How it leads to further
oppression: creating an us vs. them" logic leads everyone
to believe that they are bad. Like domino effect; will continue
applying to other subalterns. We are normalizing this
mindset within the institution of society, and thats what
causing further oppression.

Solvency
A) Soto, who is one of the Tohono Activists, from the 1AC
Narrative, himself speaks for the TO, and he says that he
doesnt want there to be a Oodham Berlin Wall that would
separate them from their families, restrict them from
continuing their own cultural and religious practices.
B) Using the law allows us to change the policy, finally allowing
them to the cross the border, and allows us to humanize the
other, and viewing them as equal by allowing them to tell us
their views. By respecting them, we are viewing them as
equal, and not as inferior anymore.
C) USFG is what put the restriction on the TO, so we have to be
the one to take it off. The oppressor needs to become the
liberator.
D) Our plan is the only way to solve. The first way that the US
has made a ton of mistakes, and the second way is that we
can just sit here and do nothing, so we need to pass our
plan.
*At the point in which the plan has passed, we will have invited
the TO to the kitchen table and allow them to speak their views
and opinions.
