PS 241 Fundamentals of Air Pollution (3 units)

Second Semester 2016-2017, Section A, TTh 12:30 14:00 Venue: TBA
Maria Obiminda L. Cambaliza (mcambaliza@ateneo.edu)

A. Course Description
This course aims to provide students design training for air pollution control. It introduces
the students to various observed major air pollution problems, and to familiarize them with
the approaches and technology involved in the measurement and control of air pollution.
Special focus is given on the control of particulate and gaseous pollutants from point
sources.
B. Learning Outcomes
After the course, the students should be able to:
1. Articulate and discuss major emission sources;
2. Apply mass and energy balance, chemical equilibrium, and chemical kinetic concepts
to determine the formation or removal rates of pollutants;
3. Design an air pollution control system for a given particulate control problem;
4. Develop a well-crafted, clear and concise written report of the air pollution design
that contains all pertinent information to recommend (sell) the project to upper
management
