Improve Data Center Management with Dateras Elastic Data Fabric 2.

0
Around three years ago, a group of extremely sharp and talented technical minds gathered
together and imagined a new world. A world where data center infrastructure could be
separated from specific hardware infrastructure to provide ultimate flexibility and
composability in software. As they dreamed, they imagined a data center infrastructure that
could quickly understand and adapt to app requirements expressed in the language of the
application, not the other way around. In this new world, a data center infrastructure would
support any app and any orchestration framework. CIOs and VOs of IT understand the
operational benefits of cloud technologies which are typically only available to Google,
Microsoft Azure, and Amazon.

With these ideas in mind and the knowledge that were entering an Era of Data, this group
came together and launched Datera. A recent product release signifies a pivotal step for the
Datera team in building their vision.

What weve created at Datera is a true Universal Data infrastructure providing optimal
flexibility to run any and all applications and ecosystems.

Enterprise Applications (packaged or home-grown, built on Oracle and MS SQL) running in

large-scale virtualized environments require the highest performance, five nines of reliability.
Dateras software, Elastic Data Fabric, offers better reliability and better performance than
monolithic scale-up storage array. This includes the data center management services
customers expect from a Tier-1primary storage platform. All this for less than 20% of the cost of
your typical all flash array!

Were excited to announce, DateraElastic Data Fabric is now VMware Ready for Storage
with VAAI certification, and integrated with VMware vCenter for provisioning and vRealize
for cloud scaling. This creates automated, high-performance, and cost-effective private cloud
deployments for all enterprise applications.

MongoDB, Modern Cassandra, and other NoSQL based apps built on distributed
microservicearchitectures need massive sale and complete automation. As the DevOps
revolution demands zero-click, application-driven instant provisioning of the data center,
Network and Compute made great strides but storage has been slow. Datera also recently
announced integration with Mesosphere DC/OS allowing for seamless scalability and fast
provisioning for container-based, cloud-native applications. DaterasElastic Data Fabric(EDF)
is already integrated with Google Kubernetes and Docker Swarm, offering the ability to now
support all major container ecosystems.

In addition, in the era of instant everything, real-time analytics are the next frontier of
business intelligence and a basis for a competitive edge. These apps ingest a data lake at high
rates and DaterasEDF offers a low-latency, fully automatic, high throughput data center
infrastructure. Its seamlessly integrated into the Yarn scheduler for streaming analytics with
Spark and Kafka based Kappa and Lambda architectures.

We understand there are other software defined solutions on the market and ours isnt the
only option. A variety of solutions offer similar scale-out characteristics with some better than
others. However, none offer the level of performance and scalability of Dateras Elastic Data
Fabric.
From the beginning, Datera engineers have focused on rewriting the Linux kernel stack to
reduce significant latencies in the IO Path. For example, we added the open-source Linus IO
(LIO) stack which became an industry standard for block storage systems. With these
optimizations and efficient use of auto-tiering within the server, we developed an efficient data
plane providing 100K IOPs performance per node at 1msec latencies even in a hybrid node.
Were thrilled to announce in our 2.0 release that we can now build a data plane fabric out of
up to 50 physical nodes delivering up to 5PB raw capacity and 5 million IOPs all at the same
1msec latency. All this available within a single management and service domain.

Our advanced product offers all the robust data lake services you want and need from a Tier-1
primary storage platform and data center. Since product GA, weve had Synchronous
Replication, Thin Provisioning, Snapshots and Clones, and QoS. Now, with 2.0 were adding Live
Instant Volume Resizing, Compression, Role-based Multitenant Management, and Data-atRest Encryption.

In addition, Dateras Elastic Data Fabric gets rid of the expensive three-year forklift upgrade
cadence governing the industry. This frees IT from handling risky and complex data migrations.

The new platform allows diverse server HW technologies and capacity in one fabric across all
technology generations. From the beginning, weve offered and supported multiple capacity
hybrid nodes. Now, we can support all flash nodes in one fabric. This allows customers to
grow at any time as needed with one scalable system across performance and capacity
vectors.
Not only that, our product supports zero-click online insertion and decommissioning of nodes.
This enables rolling upgrades and continuous infrastructure delivery. With one simple click, you
have non-disruptive, fabric-wide software upgrades.

Apps have different capacity, performance, and backup requirements which can change over
time. App owners may seem like theyre speaking a different language when sharing
requirements with their IT Ops colleagues who understand the underlying infrastructure and
simply select and deploy the necessary storage to support these requirements. The
development and deployment DevOps models need continuous and automatic infrastructure
delivery. This means the data center infrastructures of the future must learn the capabilities of
the underlying data center, adapt to the intents as published by app developers, orchestrate
the placement of data lakes and data paths based on the intent of apps, and balance the two
all in real time! This all translates to a self-learning storage infrastructure. When anything
changes, it rebalances automatically to run applications at maximum performance in the most
cost-effective way possible.

To date, the Datera Elastic Data Fabric was available in the form of HW appliances based on
SuperMicro server notes from channel partners near and far. Now, we have Dell server nodes
and a new software-only licensing model for customers who want server hardware directly
from suppliers. We offer unmatched flexibility and licensing options including an all-inclusive
perpetual license and a pay-as-you-go model with SW and support all for one low price.
Combined, customers receive unparalleled cloud-like procurement as well as operational and
consumption flexibility.

Welcome to the Data Lake Infrastructure of tomorrow. Visit datera.io to check out all the good
things we have in store for you. We believe were sharing the most advanced data center
infrastructure solution which challenges both technology and business norms of data center
management. Once again, were raising the bar for fellow providers to aspire to achieve.
