Napa Valley

merlot
2014

Background
Aaron Pott and Joseph Carr leapt at the opportunity to work together
in producing this bold Bordeaux-style Merlot. The grapes are sourced
from select vineyards in Napas prestigious Carneros AVA. Aarons
experience working in Bordeaux along with a shared philosophy of
producing elegant and complex yet approachable and balanced wines
is evident in this offering.

Appellation
Napa Valley AVA

Varietal Composition
96% Merlot, 4% Malbec

Winemaking
The grapes were hand-picked at the peak of flavor development from
mid August through early October. Grapes were crushed then went
through an 11-day fermentation period in 100% stainless steel with
cap punch-downs three times daily to maximize flavor extraction. The
wine was barrel-aged for 18 months in French oak, 50% new.

Vintage Notes
Called a dream vintage by Wine Spectator, Napas 2014 harvest
was unusually early due to the ongoing drought. Ideal temperatures
and some rain relief in late winter set the vintage up to rival the great
2012 and 2013. Look for powerful fruit and ripe tannins.

Tasting Notes
This highly aromatic and complex wine features notes of fresh plum,
lavender, and cedar, with black cherry and tobacco emerging on the
palate. It is medium bodied with elegant tannins and a lingering
finish.
