As a teacher assistant at Crossroads Middle School, I worked with

This past summer I traveled to Tanzania in East Africa and spent a month

During a six week summer school program, I worked as a group leader in


a fourth grade classroom at Gladiola Elementary. Every morning I served
as an aide to the teacher, assisting with lessons and keeping the students
on task. In the afternoon, I was responsible for creating and leading
lessons centered on character building, language arts, and STEM.

I spent a summer as an aide for residents in a group home. The 13 adults
here had a range of developmental disabilities. My job was to serve as an
advocate for the residents, helping them live their lives as independently
as possible. We worked together to create visual schedules in the
morning so the residents had a predictable routine to follow.

After a week of training at Grand Valley, I spent the few days before
school started helping freshman students acclimate to their new lives on
campus. I worked to build friendships within my group and created an
inclusive community. Transitions really helped me to get comfortable
speaking in front of groups and allowed me to improve my leadership
skills.

I worked one on one with two fourth grade students to differentiate
instruction and target their individual needs. I practiced testing and
scoring the students in an effort to determine areas in which they needed
improvement.

students on addition and subtraction strategies as part of a math
workshop.
