BHS Student Council

Go-Green Initiative
Many Bluefield High School students do not know the severity and importance of recycling
and conservation. Throughout the day students choose to throw away most of their plastic
bottles and papers into the trash cans when there are perfectly usable recycling units around the
school and in some classrooms. As representatives and leaders of the student body and the
school, I believe it is important for us to take an initiative to increase the greenness of our
school. Students also have a lack of respect for the surrounding school property and
environment in general. Part of this behavior comes from the lack of beauty found around the
school. This problem could be solved with a few outside projects to revitalize how the school
looks, which would increase the students respect for not only school property but nature in
general.
Project 1: Reduce, Reuse, RECYCLE

Signs should be made to advertise the use of recycling bins around the school instead of
trash bins.
More bins or cans of any source should be collected for paper trash and can trash.
Letters should be sent out to teachers to encourage all classes to have their own recycling
bins for at least plastics and papers.
Make sure the student body knows Student Council is sponsoring this Go-Green
Project.

Project 2: School Revitalization

Whether it be trimming a few pushes outside or planting new flowers, some of our
outside areas need a makeover.
In the spring, we need to get new flowers and plant them around the school and pull up
weeds.
Also, we need to think of ideas of how to remodel and remake the sundial behind the
school.

Project 3: Greenhouse

Maybe over thr summer or at the beginning of school we need create a small 10-foot by
10-foot greenhouse outside
We need to fundraise and get donations to build this greenhouse.
A list of materials will be created when needed.
