Mandela Effect
If you ask anyone what the queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs says
to the mirror, there is a great chance that their response will be, Mirror, mirror on the
wall, whos the fairest of them all. This classic line from this classic movie is heard
everywhere, and everyone remembers it just as that. What if I told you that is not
actually what she said? In fact, Mirror, mirror on the wall, whos the fairest of them all
isnt what she said. Instead she says Magic, mirror on the wall, whos the fairest of
them all.
How about that famous line that Darth Vader says to Luke? Luke, I am your
father. You dont even have to be a Star Wars fan to know this one. Apparently, we all
remember this famous line wrong because that isnt actually what Vader says to Luke.
Rather, he says No, I am your father. Despite the bold memories that are embedded
into our heads, these memorable lines never actually existed...or did they?
Conspiracy theorists have developed a theory to explain this unexplainable
phenomenon, they call it the Mandela Effect. According to Fiona Broome, the creator of
the original Mandela Effect website, the Mandela Effect is what happens when
someone has a clear memory of something that never happened in this reality. Its not
only one person, its multiple people who believe the same idea. Conspiracy theorists
believe that we are entering in and out of parallel universes which explains our

memories of things that never existed. Perhaps, in an alternate universe, the queen did
say Mirror, mirror on the wall, whos the fairest of them all. and Darth Vader did say to
Luke, Luke, I am your father. Despite our specific recollections of these events, there
is no physical proof that our memories of these moments did exist, with the exception of
only a few instances.
A famous TV and movie series most remembered as Sex in the City, is actually
entitled Sex and the city. This inconsistent memory only goes to prove the Mandela

Effects accuracy because there were

products made with the title Sex in the City.

Figure one (Hudspeth) shows two CDs of the series, both having the way everybody
remembers it and the way it actually is. Figure two (Tutts) shows a perfume that was
part of the Sex and the City merchandise collection, with Sex in the City clearly printed
on it. These

photos might be the

victim of

photoshop,

but photoshop or not, it

doesnt

explain the consistent memories everybody has of it being Sex in the City.

The second and probably most shocking Mandela Effect is The Berenstein
Bears. This popular childrens TV show has had some serious uproar in the past year.
Everybody remembers it as The Berenstein Bears. In reality, it has been the Berenstain
bears. Somebody found an old VHS (Figure Four) of this beloved childhood show which

clearly shows the name being The Berenstein Bears. This artifact is only one example
that proves the Mandela Effect as true.
Monopoly is a classic board game. But does the little man who is on the cover of
all the boxes have a monocle? Most remember him having one. Even on Halloween
when people dress up as him, they have a monocle. Monopoly has come

out and stated that he never had one, despite the consistent recollections from its
users.
Although this conspiracy is heavily believed, there is another explanation to this
phenomenon. In 1978, psychologist Elizabeth Loftus conducted the The Misinformation
Effect. (Fernando) The Misinformation Effect is the human brain's tendency to believe
something that somebody tells you while unconsciously disregarding your own
recollections of the idea. Therefore people may not actually remember something being
a certain way, they just believe what the person is telling them. Though this may be true
for small occasions, it doesn't give an explanation as to why everybody remembers
something so large, such as a line from a movie, being a certain way.
In our society today, technology has taken over. Everything we do is being
recorded and captured. We are constantly snapchatting and video taping, documenting
our lives without even realizing it. The Mandela Effect is something that I predict will
show up more and more as time goes on. Since our generation is obsessed with the
idea of recording everything, I predict that it will be easier to prove that The Mandela
Effect is true.
One example of how the internet could have an effect on Mandela Effect includes
the substantial amount of iPhones. iPhones are infatuated into our culture. If the
Mandela Effect stands true, during the alternation between universes, it is likely that our
memories of the handheld devices could be altered. Possibly we could remember a
feature on the phone that never even existed. Or we could possibly have a memory of a
phone that never existed. With the internet being so dominant, there could be proof of
this hypothetical phone or function of a phone existing.

The Mandela Effect got its name because a woman believed that Nelson
Mandela died in prison in the 80s (Hudspeth). Shocked, she found out that he died on
December 5, 2013 and when she expressed her recollections to others, she found that
they believed he died back then as well. The group even parallels on the memory of
having seen his funeral being covered on the news. Memories that arent accounted for
of celebrity deaths arent in common. Prince, Mohammad Ali, Carrie Fisher and Debbie
Reynolds are only a few of the many celebrities that died in 2016. Again, during the
alternation between universes, it is likely that our memories of the deaths and how they
died could be altered. Footage of these events will soon emerge since our generation
looks at everything through a lense.
The Mandela Effect is a mind blowing explanation for these unexplainable
memories. Some people believe that they just have a bad memory. But isnt it weird that
everyone has the same memory? According to the Mandela Effect, these recollections
aren't just a product of having a bad memory, there may be something bigger
happening.
