An Analysis of Creative Process Learning in Computer Game Activities

Through Player Experience

The research focuses on the creative processing of learning of student through gaming
specifically Digital Game Based Learning. Games, in general, support the development of
critical thinking through visualization, experimentation, and creativity (Amory, 2007). As
mentioned in the works of Paras and Bizzocchi (2005), games have great potential to support
creative processes. Divergent and convergent thinking are the core elements of the creative
process.
At the early age, I am fond of playing games such as logic Games in the Family
Computer and Role Playing or Strategy Games in the PlayStation. Gaming can bring joy and
challenge to a user, if so, why our parents do not allow us to just play video games? There are
many reasons why, playing video games can be addictive and lose control over yourself. Gaming
is not evil, as long as you will not let it control you. In this study shows how gaming creates
positive effect in learning. This study focused on four games, that is, Portal 2, I-Fluid, Gunz 2:
The second Duel, and Braid. These kinds of games makes the user think beyond expectation, as I
remember it clearly during my computer gaming times, I carry the problem of the game find
solutions or to solve the mystery for me to proceed to the next stage. The study were participated
by 15 students. The study examined the impact of video games on the students motivation and
their school records: programming, math and art subjects. Some of the games shows violent that
can influence the behavior of the learner, but the motor and critical thinking skills of the learner
are enhanced. I played the game Gunz I when I am in high school, I used to mimic the ninja like
movements of the character and made my grades in PE class excel. In mathematics, even though
I am not that good enough, I able to create a way of thinking on how solve problems on my own,
the effect of playing video games can sometime ambiguous and the most important thing in this
study is Do not let the game control you and the aspects of game playing help people learn
more effectively.
