API SPEC 5L
API SPEC 5L is a international standard specifies requirements for the manufacture of two
product specification levels (PSL 1 and PSL 2) of seamless and welded steel pipes for use in
pipeline transportation systems in the petroleum and natural gas industries. Line pipes can be
used for a wide range of conveying of gas, water and oil in petroleum and the tubes are
suitable for cold bending and galvanizing at the customers request.

This International Standard is not applicable to cast pipe.

Size range (mm):

Sunny Steel can supply superior Quality High strength, High Toughness, Homogeneous material and
Corrosion Resistant Line Pipes for various special services such as offshore and sour services.
UOE: available from 16in. up to 64in. OD (worlds largest)
UOE line pipe can be supplied as high strength line pipe up to Grade X80, and high toughness line pipe for
low-temperature services and corrosive gas or crude oil service.
HFW: available up to 26in. OD, with wall thickness up to 1in. (worlds largest)
HFW line pipe can be supplied as high strength API grade line pipe up to 5L X80, and high grade line pipe
for sour gas service and offshore service.

SMLS: available up to 16-3/4in. OD

SMLS line pipe can be supplied with corrosion resistant alloy pipe (weldable12% Cr Line Pipe) and high
strength API grade line pipe up to 5L X80 for crude oil, gas, water and slurry service.

Application: gas, water and oil transportation in both oil and natural gas.

Inspection and Test:

Chemical Composition Inspection, Mechanical Properties Test(Tensile Strength, Yield Strength, Elongation, Flaring,
Flattening, Bending, Hardness), Drift Test, Surface and Dimension Test, NDE, Hydrostatic Test, MT

Surface Treatment: Oil-dip, Shot Blasting, Varnish

After testing, the test piece shall be free from cracks or breaks. However, slight incipient cracks at its edges shall not
be regarded as justification for rejection.
