Altiyan Childs rehearses for the Jesus Christ Superstar performance at the Events Centre, Caloundra.

IT'S not often a production forges itself exclusively on the Sunshine Coast and brings along
with it some household names.
Jesus Christ Superstar is set to take the stage in Caloundra this November, featuring the likes
of The X Factor Australia winner, Altiyan Childs and The Voice Australia grand nalist, Frank
Lakoudis.
Mr Childs, who is also a ARIA award winner, said for him this was even more challenging than
his time on The X Factor.
"Just when I thought things couldn't feel any more personal, I get to put myself in the shoes of
arguably the most controversial gure in history," he said.
"I hope that my immense and ancient Love for God will help me deliver."
Mr Childs said he thought the production would resonate with Sunshine Coast audiences.
"We're excited to be treating our audiences to a high energy and entertaining night out," he
said.
Mr Lakoudis
confessed the role
was challenging for
him despite his time
on The Voice
Australia.
"Being cast in such
an iconic role is both
exhilarating and
terrifying, much like
the character
himself," he said.
"Before Judas was
the betrayer he was
Jesus' friend, and I

Mr Lakoudis said
that he was enjoying
his time on the Coast and basking in the fact that he was also supporting the local arts
industry.
"It is exciting to be part of such a high-calibre, regional arts production, knowing we are
supporting the arts outside the major metropolitan areas," he said.
The production's director, Thomas Armstrong-Robley said the motivation behind the
production was the hope of creating a world-class industry on the Sunshine Coast.
"What we're trying to do with this show is build an industry," he said.
"The Sunshine Coast has got a world-class event's centre and I suppose it's been over looked
as a main venue.
"It's the same size as QPAC in Brisbane and it needs to be treated with the same respect."
Mr Armstrong-Robley said the show wasn't one with a hidden agenda, but he'd like the
audience to come away with many questions.
"We don't want to tell audiences what they should think," he said.
"We just want them to come and have thoughts and I encourage them to come and have really
strong opinions about things.
"I don't expect them to like every decision we've made or hate every decision we've made, I just
want them to come and feel like they've experienced real people on stage and have opinions
based on what they see."
Jesus Christ Superstar was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, rst debuting on
Broadway in 1971.
This production is the rst to be staged by Gateway Theatre Productions, which launched on
the Sunshine Coast earlier this year.
It will open at The Events Centre in Minchinton St, Caloundra on October 27, running through
until November 5.
Tickets start at $64.90 and are available from www.theeventscentre.com.au.
