Jumpfest 2016
Volunteering Time and Skill
Photography
Each year SWSA puts together this Program with the
support and generosity of a dedicated group of talented
artists who share their images. We are all beneficiaries of
their generosity.
The photographers are a group of individuals who
spend countless hours standing in the snow, on the freez-
ing stairs, focusing and timing their shots to share with
all of us. That instance of awe is caught in an image for
the rest of us to stare at in wonder and to remember. The
image of a ski jumper suspended in the sky, looking down
from the top of the tower, or seeing the crowd around a
bonfire, all give a unique perspective. Without their gift
of sight and hours on the hill we would not have the same
understanding of the uniqueness of this sport and Jump-
fest weekend.
Thank you to the photographers over the years who
have donated their images, time, advice and expertise
helping us to promote and support ski jumping and
Jumpfest weekend.
Thank you to our recent photographers who have dedi-
cated hours and shared their images: Lynne Anstett, Dan
Burns, Anne Day, Kate Erwin, Ian Johnson, Joe Meehan,
Mel Morales, and Jean Saliter.

Coming to the camp, I did not know quite what
to expect. I coached for a season at SWSA after I
finished competing. At the time, there were a few
young jumpers, but not as many as when I had been
competing. Nowadays, it seems that young skiers
are focused more on the halfpipe and the slope style
course than ski jumping. I cannot count the num-

someone asks whether I did flips (no, that is aerials).
What I saw at the jump camp amazed me! There
were at least two dozen jumpers and the atmosphere
was as vibrant as it ever had been. Ryan and Trevor
