ruption of climate science of the Cli matic Research Unit
( C.R.U. ) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change ( I.P.C.C. ), they cannot hide the C OM P L ETE

curate prediction.

ceived media attention, but the emphasis must shift to
the C OM P U TER M OD EL S . I.P.C.C. models are part of
continuum of the exploitation of U S EL ES S computer
models to promote EN V I RO N M EN TA L EX TR EM I S M and
P OL I TI C A L A G EN DA S .

They gave the I.P.C.C. reports far more credibility than

they deserved by producing simple graphs and crude
maps of a warmer world with increasingly, expanding
and threatening R ED ( H O T ) areas that avoided the
need for scientific understanding.

produced Al Gore ’s movie understood this.

Consider just three , any one of which should raise flags about the author’s
credibility ―

E NVIR O –M ANIAC A DVISOR TO O BAMA

Despite the L U DI C ROU S N A TU R E of these Ehrlich claims, they drew attention

and promotion from environmentalists and people who saw the political P O -
TEN TI A L O F TH E F EA RS H I S C L A I M S EN G EN D ER ED .

Not least among these was John Holdren , who co–authored a 1969 article with
Ehrlich that claimed ―

<< [ ... ] if the population control measures are not initiated imme-
diately, and effectively, all the technology man can bring to bear will
not fend off the misery to come. >>
 With an Enviro–Maniac Wack–Job in the Obama
White House, America is utterly SCREWED !

John Holdren is in a position as Science Czar in the

Obama W hite House to try and make his prophecies a
reality.

Holdren was a fully paid–up member of The Limits to

Growth Club .

In his 1971 Sierra Club book, « Energy : A Crisis in

Power » , Holdren declared that ―
[ SIERRA CLUB IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL–TERROR–ORGANIZATION ]

<< [ ... ] it is fair to conclude that under almost any assumptions,

the supplies of crude petroleum and natural gas are severely limited.
The bulk of energy likely to flow from these sources may have been
tapped within the lifeti me of many of the present p opulation. >>

Because of this view, Holdren joined with Ehrlich and John Harte in a bet with
economist Julian Simon that five metals would I N C R EA S E in price over ten years
because of increasing scarcity. Simon easily W ON the bet.

Despite this, the credibility of these people remained unsullied and essentially
unchallenged in the same way that the credibility of the Cli matic Research Unit
and Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change does today.

A significant reason was because they both used computer models that MYS-
TI F Y A N D B EGU I L E M OS T P EOP L E , as Gallois observed.
However, beyond not understanding the mathematics, was the public belief
that the models produced accurate predictions of the future.

In fact, the « Li mi ts To Gro wth Worl d 3 » model was NOT intended to be

predictive ―

<< In this first simple world model, we are interested only in the
broad behavior modes of the population–capital system. >>

The « population–capital » phrase is telling because it links the catastrophic

population predictions of Ehrl ich with the economic system. It was a barely
disguised attack upon the capitalist system.

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change models do the same thing. Most

think they are O N L Y about global temperature, but that is incorrect. The final
reports produced by W orking Group II are based on the temperature predic-
tions ―

sis » that climate chan ge is occurring n ow, mostly as a result of hu-
man ac tivit ies, this volume illustrates t he impacts of global warm ing
already under way, and the potenti al for adapt ation to reduce the

These are blended into the influential S ummary f or Policy Makers ( S.P. M. ),
that says population and economic growth measured by CO 2 , have caused
temperature increase, and the solution is to S TOP TH E EC O N OM I C G RO W TH and
R ED U C E TH E P OP U L A TI ON .

Models of both groups are built on population projections, and assume busi-
ness as usual. Both are simplistic linear M O D EL S B A S ED ON V I R TU A L L Y N O
D A TA , with C OM P L ETEL Y I N A D EQU A TE understanding of the mechanisms, and
I N A B I L I TI ES to accommodate feedback.

Every model prediction or projection of both groups was R EM A RKA B L Y W RO N G ,

regardless of attempts at improvement. This is true for weather, climate, popu-
lation, and economic models. A similar record of FA I L ED P R EDI C TI ON S would
doom any other area of research and policy. But money and politics, combined
with the use of computer models, bestows a completely U N J U S TI FI ED C R EDI B I L -
I TY . It’s time their f ailures were exposed.

cations in the urban landscape. He has trained, instructed, and consulted with THOUSANDS of turf man-
agers and technicians. Mr. Gathercole has also been an agricultural agronomist. For many years, Mr.
Gathercole was a contributing columnist for TURF & Recreation Magazine, Canada’s Turf and Grounds
Maintenance Authority. Mr. Gathercole is now retired from Force Of Nature, although his name continues
