Dear Mrs. Boutilier:

Capstone is about bettering the community and for my capstone I am running a pep squad for the
middle school. The pep squad will practice once a week on a Wednesday afternoon from 3-4
hopefully we will be in the main conference hall, but the location will vary depending on what
space is available for the squad to practice. I am apart of a team of three people, Alexis Smith,
Jomalie Guerrero, and I, we would like to do other activities such as esteem and confidence
building. We are also available for homework help during practice if it is needed. We will be
cheerleading at the middle school basketball games that are at the home court to help support our
team. The Pep Squad gives the girls a safe place to express themselves in the community, we will
also be giving the girls and boys basketball teams support and encouragement to do their best.

The research question for my capstone project is: How to boost an adolescents self-esteem
and self-concept? The question contributes to the Pep Squad because we will be spending a lot
of time with the girls and boys to help them be more comfortable and to have a safe space to
express themselves. I will be coordinating self-esteem building activities so that the girls and
boys can benefit from everything and help to be a better person.

My mentor for the Pep Squad is Mrs. Bordeau she works in the building so she knows how to
work with the students and help them, she also use to be a cheerleading coach so she can help us
come up with lesson plans and ideas that will work best for the group of children. She will not be
supervising the Pep Squad she did not have enough time so Mrs. Turner who is a middle school
teacher said that she would be there to watch over practice. Mrs. Turner being our supervisor
works out very nicely because she works with the children directly in the classroom and knows
best how we should act. Who is your mentor. My learning stretch for my capstone project is to
organize activities towards a middle school audience. This is difficult for me because I no longer
interact with middle school aged children so it can be difficult to connect with them.

Sincerely,

Madison McKeever
