1 The task time of an operator is being measured in a motion and 5

time study, and the following 5 observations have been made:
40, 41, 38, 39, 40. The performance rating factor has been
estimated at 1.10. Calculate the standard time if the company
has an allowance factor of 15 per cent.

Also, calculate the number of observations that the company

should make so that it can be 95 percent confident that the
average task time computed from the motion and time study is
within 5 per cent of the true average task time.
(z= 1.96 for a confidence interval of 95 per cent)

2 A factor produces a certain product for which various tasks (A to 5

L) are required. Task times and predecessor tasks of task A to L
are given in the table. These tasks have to be allocated to
workstations.

A 12
B 6
C 6
D 2
E 2
F 12
G 7
H 5
I 1
J 4

units of product every day. Determine the minimum number of
workstations required so as to minimize the balance delay. Also
determine the number of theoretical workstations.
