    During British rule in India, the British were involved in several wars and military campaigns in South Asia and the Middle East from 1856 to 1936. These conflicts included the Second Opium War against China, the Second Anglo-Afghan War against Afghanistan, the Third Anglo-Burmese War which made Burma part of British India, punitive expeditions in Tibet, the Boxer Rebellion in China, the Second Boer War in South Africa, World War I, the Turkish War of Independence, wars and campaigns along the Northwest Frontier including Waziristan, and conflicts against rebel tribes in the region. Many of these wars resulted in victory for British and Indian forces and furthered British political and territorial control.
